A few swimming pool sessions and trips along the Chanel Islands, we earned and now can finally say, " we are both certified scuba divers !!

In Jan, we decided to take on this adventure that had been on the bucket list. It had been cold here in Los Angeles but that didn't stop us. Our very first pool session was raining, windy and of course it was cold. Guess rain or shine, freezing or windy, the session have to go. It was 3 hrs of getting to know your gears and to attach your first stage to the tank and so on.

New word I have not meet before is bouyancy. I guess I've heard that in order for you to be so comfortable and able to control your bouyancy is by doing it over and over again. And we will!!

My first descending in pool wasn't good. I think I didn't equalized soon enough before I felt hurts in my ears. Then we had to do some skills down there. Somehow I panic and pulled out my regulator while doing some skills.

After 3 pool sessions and 5 dives we got our certificates! We have also added a Nitrox certification to that. And signed up for advance diving which will start on Tuesday.

There are so much to look forward to. A nine days on the Liveaboard in August has been paid. So Excited for this. This will make our honeymoon we never had.

The first dive trips we had was in Catalina Island. It was cold and raining that day but we went on anyways. The first thing we had to do once the boat anchored was to snorkel for perhaps 40 minutes. It was for our body and mind get feel the water, that damn cold water, and get acclimated.

Then that first dive. Tank on the back, masks on, weight belt on, and the fins on, then the regulator in the mouth and off the boat I went. I was scared but excited as I made my big wide walk off the boat. Lots of bubbles as I get submerge in salt water and then I came up the water change my regulator to snorkel, made my okay signal and heard my instructor, "good job Fe", I felt relieved.

The visibility was not good, about 15 feet. . We went down at about 34 feet and stayed down there for maybe 35 minutes.

There were green grass they call and brown ones too. Lots of colorful fish. Sea cucumbers were plenty and oh lots of kelp.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For the second trip we had 3 dives. We decided to carpool with our instructor. The boat was in Ventura California. We got to the dock about 10 pm. We all helped out to get all the gears into the boat. Once we got all the gears up, we then had to set up all our gears. Meaning, our tank and bc's need to be attach and test the air pressure. Then by almost midnight we went to our bank beds. It was very cold that night and I wish we brought our sleeping bags.

Second trip was in Anacapa Island, California. The boat left the Ventura dock at 6:30ish am. It takes a little while to get to the island and that is the reason why we had to sleep on the boat.
Shopping for our gears were also highlight of this adventure. The only thing we will not buy is a tank. It requires controlled temperature and that we don't have.

Last year towards the fall season, husband and I were able to do some trips around the area. One of the Channel Islands here in California and is the nearest one to get to is Anacapa. It's got some great history about it but I'm not going to get into details since I'm for sure I will be out of facts. I'm just out for fun and to see other things around besides, cars, cars and cars in los angeles freeways.

Was a great morning and we boarded the Island Packers. On our way to the island, the captain spotted some dolphins and so nicely enough guy, slowed down so all the folks boarded his boat can see and take photos, videos and so some of them took can have fun taking selfies with them pretty nice dolphins.

For me, I felt like I was in the discovery channel.. LOL. so here's my video and my talking like crap..LOL
Yup, i am that crazy individual . I have seen people posting and I was very inspired to do it too.

It was last summer that I finished the project. Did it all by myself. . For months I have not seen a hummingbird on it but I certainly had fun watching the finches splashing themselves on it.

Last week i was lucky to see it but though didn't have a phone or anything to capture the bath. LOL. So, I was on the look out for a week.

Saturday morning, as we were leaving the house, I spotted the hummingbird uses my fountain to have a Saturday morning bath..LOL I had my cell phone this time and so I had a chance to take it's video. Very short but you get the picture.

I hope you enjoy it and have a great day.
I had it sit around to cure. Well, they say the longer it sits around not being used will last longer. Well, we will see about that, but it's been a year and I'm excited to just fill it up with something fun to make.

I used the large bubble wrap as my plastic to make sure my tufa mix don't stick to my mold. And it turns out very nice. I also have a dish that I made out of small bubble wrap and I will fill it up with succulent when I get time.

So, i decided to gather most of my tiny furry cactus that I have around in it's tiny little pot and put them all in that big, and shallow tufa I made.

I went to Joan Fabric store near my house a while ago to find some discounted stuff and found that little guy reading a book. I thought it's cute just to have it sit there next to cactus that seems have plenty of needles. hahaha. Every time I passed the pot, I giggle myself to death looking at the parrot, reading at the cactus. LOL.

So simple to put them all together and yet the feeling of rewards is so enormous. It last until the project disappear from y our sight. I'm more than definitely you feel same way after seeing your project gets finished.

I want to do more of this kind of dish. Seems easy. I have been comfortable with the mix I make so far.

Yet, the spring is yet to come, officially.

This year, I made plans to plant some vegetable with flowers. I made me some nice rectangular boxes for plants to be place in the middle of concrete backyard I have. I have limited area I can plant stuff and all those areas were taken, per say.

I joined this group on Facebook a while ago. They sent 5 different seeds for all the 40 people to try. I am in group A. And I got all these seedlings.

Kale Prism

Tomato Fantastico

Radish Roxanne

Basil Dolce Fresca

Pepper Pretty N Sweet

I share all of my seeds to 2 people since one girl really wanted to be part of the group and she was late to get her name in. And my niece wanted to try some too.

Anyway, my experiment isn't that great looking. I opted for Kellogg's all natural soil and mixed it with a bit of peat moss. It said organic but my plants didn't look healthy at all. And more so that it grows lots of little mushrooms everyday.

I filled it with soil with some sand then plant some pretty succulents I have around the backyard.
I managed to make 4 rectangular pots with more support this time and more curing time. Was very fun for me.

Went to Home Depot and order me the following:

30 pcs of wood fencing

2 bags (50 lbs each) of cement powder

1 roll of chicken wire 50 ft long

2 miracle grow potting soil (50 lbs each)

2 bags of sand

1 bag (30 cubic ) perlite

2 bags of peat moss

Well, I had so much fun making the pot. Here's some photos of them.
So, Last spring, I decided to buy a pack of strawberries to plant. Went to Home Depot and got a pack of 8 plants. Planted them by the driveway. My driveway gets afternoon full sun in summer.

I was encouraged to plant more after eating the first few hand full we got from them, they were absolutely sweet!! So onto the planning how to propagate what I have. I was searching on how to's stuff on the internet.

The bag here was a coffee bean bag that my lovely daughter gave me for Christmas, 3 years ago. Of course I used up all the yummy coffee beans and kept the bag for future use. And that is the best I can come up with.

This pot I made few years ago. My hypertufa pot. Decided to relocate what was in it and transferred my strawberries in. When I moved it it cracked in the middle. I glued it back and tied it so I can use it a little bit longer.

My very old thick plastic rectangular planter. It was white when I bought it and decided to spray paint in green so it's not eye sore!!

So, I added two more little strawberries plants on this bag to experiment how it will grow. If this is a success then I can make more like it since I really like how it looks.

Well, this is for now and will update when I harvest them. So excited.

Had been gone to few concerts for the past months. Visited a Butterfly pavilion. Gardening is as usual unending fun. Cleaning has been less doing. Matt has gone to college. Geraldine is doing excellent. And we had visitors from home, Christiansburg, Va.
Then, we got to see Carrie Underwood here in Nokia Theater. We had standing tickets. So pretty much we can stand wherever we want. The stage she had set up was huge. She got to run around so she can see and get closer to her fans. Spectacular show I must say.

Then onto Sia in Hollywood Bowl. That show was fun. She stood on some flat form that was built for her and was situated to the back of the stage. She had few dancers that runs around the whole stage. If you zoom into the photos below, you will see what I meant. We had the front seats. It was fun night for me and husband to be out for sure and just enjoyed the night. He bought the VIP tickets. It means front seats with reception before the show. That reception was surely greater than what we have had done before. Good food comes around to you and endless booze.

His big sister is doing excellent herself. Her and her boyfriend gets to move to a newer condo that his parents owned. Certainly it's better for both of them now that they are planning to have a family. Right now they just added another 4 legged member to the family. They name him Jack. Though we haven't met him yet but seeing pictures and videos of him, he is very fun and a good addition to Brutus.

I'm fascinated with this tiny birds of their color and fast flying and let alone bathing! I never knew they do such. Lol

But here is my own video captured in my backyard.

Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

I looked around to buy cabinet for our shoes. I couldn't find one that I like. So, I built my own!

Not so bad for first timer. What really makes the difference is that, you need the right tools and patience and eagerness to learn and do it.

Luckily, hubby got me all the tools I needed except my patience and the eagerness part..LOL, that no one can buy me!

My first time to use plainer. Hubby used it when we were installing our windows a year ago. At first I was intimated by it, but my willingness told me to go and just do it. It wasn't difficult as I thought I would feel. I plained 2 of 2x6 and 10 ' long boards for the top of cabinet. They were left overs from our project last year. So happy I did it. I was so impressed of myself.

The challenging part of doing the cabinet were the doors. But I got it done.

Another tool that I first got my hands on was a router. Oh that was really intimidating. This is not a big router. It's the handy one, so it will overheat once in a while. But, i learned when to stop and give it a break. I really like the tool. I can see myself making picture frames with it.. oh just so many cool things to make now.

I routed the 2x4 so my door panel fits flush. Oh so happy with it.

This is the finish.
The shed isn't completely done yet. Went to home depot, bought plants and more pots. The rain made the backyard even dirtier.

I had to skip my gym and cardio session yesterday and today. I'm trying to get my plants in since the ground is good to be working on from the rain. I bought few red Salvia and also purle one. They are filler for my front yard. Also got me some mix short Zinias. Again, they are filler for where it needs some color.

I also got 3 blueberries. They are small right now. And transplanted them into a nicer clay pot. I am looking forward to some fruit next year. I have one in big clay pot and for two years we only got few of berries from it. The location wasn't great. So 2 weeks ago, I asked my son to help me bring down the clay pot to where it used to be 3 years ago where we had quite a bit of berries from it. So hopefully this summer we will be able to get some sweet, super full blue berries.

This year since my son isn't playing much basketball, they move the ring and so I can use the driveway planter to plant some veggies. I have one japanese eggplant, some tamatos, pepper, lettuce, and some strawberries. I hope to get some good crop from them somehow.
That Los Angeles marathon 2016 is done and over with. My thighs are screaming in pain. My feet are sore. My body do not want to do anything but sit. My eyes want to shut! Simply tired!

Funny when I was on the course I've said to myself "I'm not doing this again"!! and I believed I said it to myself over the 26.2 miles. Specially when I had to stop and wiggle my feet and stretched a bit.

Herb and I were standing with tons of people in the 8min. mile pace area. Somehow we lost our friend with us since she needed to go to the restroom. So, when the gun went off, she's way at the back. Herb and I waited for her arrival at the finish line. I was so happy and proud of her. She got reunited with her bf after walking down where the family can meet the runners. She was so happy and he was so proud of her.

Liza and I.

The first 4 miles were really huge challenge. There were many people next to each other. I just had to work myself in and wave at Herb goodbye. I had to stop at one of the port a potty just before the big hill by the Disney Concert Hall. I just couldn't hold all those 2 cups of coffee. I needed caffeine.

I had too many stops to make this time of the race. After I passed the 18 mile post, I kept stopping to give my feet a short break. I meant few seconds.

Passing the 20 mile marker, I was just so tired. I keep thinking to myself 'this is what I get when I didn't have enough sleep but maybe 3 hrs. But then again, I keep saying I'm not doing this again!! When I passed happy people to give runners boost, I forgot the pain.

The last 4 miles stretch, was too long. I remember keep looking for mile marker. When it said, 22, I wanted to see 25. LOL.

I did push myself this time. I don't even know how much I was pushing but in my calculation every time I look at my watch, I was on my training pace to finish under 5 hours. And I did finish way under 5 hrs this time. A new PR 4:22. Not bad for injured foot and less than 3 months training. I might consider doing it again. wahaha.

Now my thighs are really sore. I haven't ran since Sunday, the race. But today, I only did 3.7 miles and boy, I couldn't focus. My legs were just tired and so sore. My eyes just want to shut the business while running. I was scared to stumble so had to really keep my eyes open. I don't blame it. LOL. My body just want to relax all day but I have some house duty to do. Like, I better finish up with this blah blah blah, so I can make dinner. Just like husband , he still have to do some work to pay bills. So it's just fair I put in my time as well.

So, the marathon is done, what's next, husband asked!. I said, tons of thing here I need to do. Like my gardening. I want to plant veggies this year. I want to make shoe rack. I want to make coffee table for my daughter and of course her and I will be doing it together as project. I want to do lots of photography. So there!

So for now, adios! I gotta cook the dinner. You ask what's for dinner. I'm making Beef red curry, sounds good, yeah! with rice. I'm hungry now.

We changed our hearts and will just dive into it. If things gets bad on me, I can always get a ride to the finish line with no medal.

Well, yesterday we signed up at the expo. Man, it was expensive this time. 225. 00 if you pay cash and 242.00 if credit card per person. Thank goodness husband went to the bank before going down to expo.

I'm glad also that my friend came by and rode down with us to pick her packet. It was nice and warm day. We ate our sushi together and chat for a bit after we got back from the expo.
I was able to get some gym time this morning. I am not running today. My allergy was terrible this morning. It's bad somehow for me this year.

Fehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02616625303176164051noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32026732.post-12087765314154123672016-02-09T11:33:00.002-08:002016-02-09T11:33:28.896-08:00And so the decisionI've pushed myself hard in training for los angeles marathon. And today was the decision day. Husband and I talked about my injury and after coming home early from my long run, we agreed not to do it.

I'm so bum by it. But having to go through pain and that, it's better to play it safe. Wasn't easy since we both trained harder. I have been doing a 15 miles run, as my long run but didn't think that I have 11 more miles to add to it to make 26.2 miles. And with 15 miles, I'm in pain while running. So if I do 26 miles, i will be in so much pain. Shin issues, knee irritation, back problems and so on are some other issues to deal with.

I wish I didn't slipped a month ago. This wouldn't be a battle to decide. It brought back memory. Husband was injured prior to the marathon day in 2012 and we decided not to do it for same reason.

I realized that all these running and trying to be fit comes with a whole lot of aches and pain. I guess if I were to just do enough so I'm not gaining weight is probably enough to sustain. Not to the max where I'm tired running and I can't get my feet off the ground high enough where I don't stumble on cracks or stepped on leaves and what not on the side walk. Really is nut.

Though I won't stop running but not too much where I get so tired.

Take care and each other.

Fehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02616625303176164051noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32026732.post-85788124174808717982016-02-04T17:50:00.002-08:002016-02-04T17:55:30.399-08:00Doing the 2016 Los Angeles MarathonHusband and I been training as much as we can for the last month or so. I got injured few weeks ago. He has issues also in his knee and ankle.

So, the marathon is just 10 days away. I have been able to put in lots of miles. Today I made it to another 15 miles on the road. So tiring but I made it to where I want to. Every week at least I do one 15 miles as my long run. And 8 miles in between. Though I take maybe 2 days off of running a week. And put in gym time as well.

We are waiting until the 10th of this month to sign up. Why wait? Because there was a year that we signed up early and just weeks before the race, husband got injured , bad. He twisted his ankle accidently and it was swolen bad. Wasted more than 400.00 dollars. So with that experience, we will wait until they say it's closing.

The side walk that we ran on, had some nice trees. And these trees had some sort of hard ball that falls off of them during fall season . Those hard balls looking things are pretty hard. I usually look down where I'm going to step. I always avoid stepping on anything even little rock or pebble because I could slipped down. And that's what exactly happened to me. I slipped and down I went. I twisted my ankle and cried in pain. I sat down on concrete for a bit to gather myself. When I got up, tried to run but couldn't. Walking was hard but I walked a mile to get home. So from husband's experience, those things goes away in time. 8 weeks he said is the usual time to heal. So, that's my problem. It's healing slowly.

The marathon is getting so expensive. This year, right now, it's 200.00. Plus the charge to register online. And when everything is said and done, probably 500.00 is what husband said that we are going to spend. I told him, I'm not so excited about it anymore but he said " we're training". I said yeah, but still we still have to decide according to our body. LOL

Deep down in me I want to do it. Even more so since my friend Liza is going to do it. It will be her first one. I'm excited for her. Though she said she's not training much but I think she'll do just great. She's done many half marathons though.
We both agreed that there are more things we can do beside training hard. But here we are training hard again for the race this year.

I had been off running for a while but picked it up in December. Husband had so much faith that I can do the marathon having to know I had little training.

I am able to put 3 long runs so far in this month of January. It's hard. I'm able to do short runs in between and gym for most part of the week. It's hard but I keep going.

My long runs are only 15 miles each time. My body just gets tired even my mind tells it to do more. I did stopped by the house to get my energy gel and a little zip of water after an hour being out there. Took me 2:30 minutes for those 15 miles. Not sure this time of how long will it take me to finish the 26.2 miles. But I have 2 more weeks to put in miles. We'll see. I'm not comfident that I will beat my last years time.

For now, I'm really tired and going to relax.
Take care of each other.

I have been wanting to make time lapse of clouds and this week I've been able to collect tons of pictures. And had been studying how to make one for a while. And to gather tools I needed to make it happen.

I bought Neewer digital timer remote trigger

months ago for this purpose. I program it to take photos every 5 seconds. It's easy to program. I don't mind sitting by my tripod to watch my camera take photos. I sound like nut..LOL. but that's what I love to do on my spare time. I process thru Picasa 3. It's been fun.

Click on the link to take you to play it. In case you're wondering what site I stored my time lapse, it's google plus. so no worries about going into something that is not ligit.

Time Lapse this was taken this evening. 01.08.2016

The first one that I made was more colorful. It's more redish clouds and faded to dark gray. Clouds are dramatic to watch turning colors. And formation is fascinating. When I watch it form, I get so much imagination going. Just magical!
I should say that it's very comforting and very lucky to have them nearby me. I did call my mom though. I always do even though it's tough but she's doing great. I guess she's got used to living life the way it is that some of her kids live far away from her. I have been living so far away from her for yeasr now. I can only imagine how she feels like but we do what we need to do to survive in this world and it makes our lives easier when we understand the needs.

My little circle of family here had a great time. My first born was accompanied by her loving bf and with them was her little winnie dog, Brutus. We cooked some chicken asada with some great salsa and chips. They went and bought the asada and I grilled them. I made some noodles and some fresh veggies to go along. Herb made some drinks.

The time went by so fast. Brutus had a great time as well.
Spent The Father's Day with my father-in-law, home cooked food and just quality time with him. Stayed with him for 6 great days and back on the road to be with my niece and sister.

arrived in Arlington, Viginia.
Brian picked us up from Ronald Reagan National Airport. It was very hectic for us that day. Lets back up a little . Just hours before we had to leave our home for LAX, we got phone call from our airlines saying they are running late. We decided to go on anyways with the thought of waiting at the airport instead of missing any flights out. So, got there and it was kaos. Husband trying to get any available flight out since the last trip to DC was that we were supposed to be on. We were supposed to arrive in Dulles Airport. We took the chance with what the agent had told us," u can get on the plane in an hour but you have to run". And so run we did to another airline and somehow manage to find our way to the gate. We didn't have assigned seat but I stood in line first and got lucky. We were all sitting together!! It payed off.

The time and what not had to be re-arranged as well. Thanks to Brian, he didn't have any issues with that, us coming in way too early than we've asked him before. 4 hours almost was the difference. I felt guilty since it's a traffic time, but he such a reserved type of person and so appreciated his kindness.

Got out and with our laugage. Its my first time in this airport. Very nice airport.

Irene got another brand new baby, Raphael. She's got two adorable boys now. I'm wondering if they are going to try or add more. the more the merier they say. Easy for me to say but two are handful.

Anyways,
